Stuart Broad admitted that ‘It was a very special afternoon’, on Monday when England secured the Ashes, but victory for Alistair Cook and his team was even sweeter for one Paddy Power punter.
A little over three months and seven sporting finals after placing his 465/1 nine-fold, England’s 74-run victory settled the bet and pocketed the gentleman a cool £23k. Not a bad way to start the week!
The bet was even more spectacular as it covered everything from football’s Champions League final to the Wimbledon winner, from the NBA Championship to ice hockey’s Stanley Cup winner. Whether it was Bayern Munich, Andy Murray, Miami Heat or the Chicago Blackhawks, this punter had it nailed. Throw in some snooker, the Lions Tour and a few more selections and you’ve got a punt that makes the bean counters in Power Tower wince.
It looks so painfully easy on paper. That feeling in your gut as you realise this fella can now afford a few weeks in the sun or a new car, that’s hindsight giving you a good kicking. We’re feeling it too.
