In response to finishing a surprisingly distant second to their city rivals, Manchester City have taken some big steps to improve and there’s a lot to like about what they’ve done. In securing the services of Manuel Pellegrini, they’ve got a top class manager who has experience of handling both big pressure and big egos.
The business the club have done over the summer doesn’t hurt the sense of building over-confidence. Over the summer, the club cheque-book has seen more action than Helen Flanagan’s cleavage and City have brought in some real quality. If even a couple of Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic, Jesus Navas and Fernandinho hit the English turf running, the Citizens will be right back into contention for a second Premier League title. If for some reason Pellegrini doesn’t win over the dressing room, there will be trouble, but that’s one of the more speculative reasons for doubting a City comeback this term.
