If the Scottish senior team were looking for some inspiration ahead of their meaningless friendly against England at Wembley, then I hope they were watching Braveheart on repeat last night rather than the Under 21 version of tonight’s fixture.
The young Scots got trounced 6-0 at Bramwell Lane on Tuesday evening. And if getting hammered by a team who finished pointless and bottom of their group at the recent Under 21 European Championships wasn’t bad enough, they also made Jonjo Shelvey look like a world beater.
The calamity reached a peak just after half-time as Scottish goalkeeper, Jordan Archer provided this moment of hilarity. Trying the stylish ‘look at how slick I am’ goalie semi-sliced kick-out, Archer got a little too much slice on it, looping the ball up to Connor Wickham who managed a neat little finish into an empty net.
Do we feel sorry for Archer? Yes. Will that stop us laughing? Nope.
