Tennis purists have called the current crop of stars ‘The Golden Generation’. That’s even without  Andrew Castle’s hyperbole on the BBC or taking into account how good Boris Becker looks in the commentary box. High praise indeed.

But, every group of players christened the ‘Golden Generation’ by the media, eventually come to an end. If you’re the England football team you never actually get anywhere, before crashing and burning into a fiery mess of ‘if’, ‘but’, ‘and what could have been’.

At Wimbledon this year Rafael Nadal was knocked out in the first round by world number 151 Steve Darcis. Novak Djokovic has made just four finals this season and suffered defeats to Juan Martin Del Potro, Tommy Haas, John Isner and Tomas Berdych on the way. Berdych has also beaten Murray twice this year, as has Del Potro at Indian Wells.

With the chasing pack catching up with the sport’s best, we’ve had a look at four players at double-figure prices who could upset the leading three in the betting. Don’t forget Greg Rusedski made the final of this tournament in 1997 so you don’t have to be a world-beater to spring a surprise in New York.
