Responding to the taunts of the Northern Ireland fans, who claimed that Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo was a cheap Gareth Bale, CR7 responded by scoring a hat-trick. That’ll learn ’em.
Northern Ireland were leading 2-1 in this Group F World Cup qualifier in Windsor Park at the time. Portugal were also down to ten men following the dismissal of former Spurs man Helder Postiga. Add in that this was a Friday evening game and post-work pints would have been consumed before kick-off, it’s understandable how the crowd got ahead of themselves.
After the abuse Ronaldo turned the game around with a 15 minute hat-trick. Northern Ireland had two players sent off. In the end Portugal won 4-2 and Ronaldo stuck a metaphorical middle-finger up at the home fans. Gareth Bale has a lot of work to do if he wants to be realistically compared to his Real Madrid team-mate.
Here’s a clip of Ronaldo completely taking the piss out of last night’s opponents with some excellent skills and footwork. Sorry Northern Ireland fans.
