It’s hard not to be in the kind of dangerously good mood to put one over on Paddy Power when you’ve just had a fine chat with Bo Derek. Yes, before you ask, I have just been chatting to Bo. You would remember her Paddy – very much your age group!
So the main day of the Breeders’ Cup 2013 has arrived. And I am ready. Pumped to do battle in a war I need Paddy to lose. You hear me Paddy?
We kick off with the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies, and I see no reason why we would want to sway from the Frizette heroine Artemis Agrotera. Stall 1 can be a bad draw if you get stuck on the rail, but she races prominently so she should get a good position. She’ll do for me having beaten leading hope Sweet Reason last time.
Next up the BC Filly and Mare Turf, and while Dank and Romantica have big chances for Europe, I can’t help but think Marketing Mix has to be right there. She has run 20 times – many of those in Grade 1s – and been in the first three on 16 occasions. Classy and consistent.
The BC Filly and Mare Sprint is tough, but I will stick with last year’s heroine Groupie Doll. She’s going to be sold next week as the trainer needs the money – she’ll be worth even more if she wins the big one again.
The BC Turf Sprint follows, and I’ll be Chips all In there – he’s pretty good at his best and stays the trip strong.
Race 8 on the card is the BC Juvenile, and in a tricky affair I am looking at the once-raced winner Tap it Rich. There are few better trainers out there than his – the grey is look after by Bob Baffert, one of the best.
We step it up a notch (if that were possible) for the BC Turf, in which many will either back The Fugue to win or Point of Entry eachway. I will be on the latter, who chased home last year’s winner Little Mike, who is back for more!
Private Zone is the one for me in the BC Sprint, before Wise Dan hacks up in the Mile!
We end the night with the climax of the BC Classic. It’s wide open…just a race chock full of top notch performers. While over in America I have fallen for Mucho Macho Man – he’s a giant of a horse and his trainer is lucky to be alive. I will back him eachway in the race he was runner-up in 12 months ago.
So enjoy the party – and if we take some cash off Paddy the Yeeehaaa! will feel even better.
