This weekend is going to be one of decisions….. I’ll be in Galway on Saturday night for our Irish shops’ Christmas party — it’s always a great night & always a late night. How do I play this? The Hong Kong Sprint is on at about 6.40am on Sunday. Realistically even with the very best intentions, the earliest I’ll get to the scratcher is about 3am. So do I set my alarm or push on through until 6.40am? Then, if that’s not stressful enough I have to decide which of Sole Power or Slade Power do I back to win the race?
Both horses travelled over really well and lost a lot less weight than expected on the flight (which is good apparently!). Basically they’re as ready as they’ll ever be and we fancy them to go well. There are a couple of minor stumbling blocks though:
- No European horse has ever win the race
- Both horses are drawn wide – which is bad apparently.
While I could get down about it, I’m more inclined to think that with negatives come a great thing called bigger odds. I fancy Slade Power a bit more than Sole Power as it’s a 6f race and the style of racing out there may suit him better. They’ll go a nice steady pace throughout which might not suit Sole’s finishing kick — but really I’m no expert and am kind of making that up. I’ve decided what anyone could have predicted….I’m backing them both and doing the reverse forecast too. Here’s to a dead heat! Oh, and obviously I’m pushing through on Saturday night.
