This week Louis Walsh was faced with his own Sophie’s choice. He had been deciding where to canvas next week for the live finals—go up north with Nicholas McDonald or stay down south with Luke Friend.
Unlike the movie version, Louis did not agonise over his decision and rather promptly picked Nicholas over Luke. In fact you will probably see Louis Walsh acting out scenes from Braveheart in a kilt on Princess Street as he puts all his eggs in Nicholas’s basket (metaphorically speaking of course).
This decision has, as you would imagine, created some tension in camp Louis (no pun intended) and both acts are now furiously at loggerheads.
‘Nicholas and Luke have not really been speaking all week’, our source tells us. ‘They avoid each other in the house and refuse to rehearse together. They wouldn’t even take the same car to the studio together as Luke is particularly bitter over Nicholas’s relationship with Louis. He feels like he has been side-lined which could cost him his place in the final. For Louis it was a practical decision and was nothing personal but the two boys have taken it to heart.’
Elton v Beyonce
This weekend the producers have taken the strange decision to theme the songs around Beyonce versus Elton John. As a result each semi-finalist will have to perform a hit from each artist on the Saturday night show.
Luke Friend will take on Beyonce’s ‘Best Thing I Never Had’, while Nicholas McDonald will perform his version of ‘Halo’. Rough Copy will try not to butcher Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor’ (which is technically cheating), and Sam Bailey will sing ‘If I Were A Boy’.
In round two Friend will also be singing Elton’s ‘Something About The Way You Look Tonight’, while McDonald will take to the stage with ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me’, (although it is highly unlikely that George Michael will pop out of a cake to complete the duet).
Again in another bizarre song choice for the group, Rough Copy have been given ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’. Finally, to nobody’s surprise, prison officer Bailey will perform EJs iconic track ‘Candle in the Wind’, which will ultimately bring the house down.
It hasn’t been a good week for Walsh, who was forced to apologise to an irate Nicole Scherzinger yesterday. Walsh openly slagged her off on last weeks’ result show when she lost her final act. Scherzy promised retribution this week, basically promising to vote off any of Louis’ acts should they end up in a sing off. And with it practically a formality that Luke and Rough Copy will be in the bottom two, Louis was forced to eat humble pie.
‘Louis was spotted grovelling to Nicole at rehearsals on Thursday afternoon’, our source confirmed. ‘Nicole was still furious with Louis but she accepted his apology. We will have to wait and see if she forgives him and saves Luke.’
It seems virtually impossible that Rough Copy will make it through to the final ahead of Luke. The only thing that could save them would be a vote from Nicole which would ultimately take it to Deadlock, allowing the public to decide.
Sharon will vote with Louis to save Luke leaving Nicole the casting vote. Leona Lewis and Michael Bublé will perform on Sunday’s results show but they will ultimately be overshadowed by the most interesting sing off in the competition to date. Rough Copy are 5/4 to go out and I think it will take divine intervention to stay in the competition.
