Kickers don’t get a lot of respect in American Football. They don’t get paid anywhere near as much as their more high-profile team-mates. Their chances to shine are limited and even then they walk a tight-rope between scorn and muted congratulations.
With the Denver Broncos trailing the Tennessee Titans 21-17 in last night’s NFL game at the Mile High, Matt Prater stepped up to attempt a 64-yard field goal. Which he nailed to set a new NFL record and pull his side back within one point.
In the end the Broncos romped home 51-28 thanks to Peyton Manning’s four touchdowns and Prater’s record-breaking three point kick made little difference. Still though, well done you.
