There are a fair few ways of taking a penalty. Some players like to nonchalantly place the ball in the corner, sending the keeper the wrong way and looking super-cool during the process. Other players simply smash it as hard as they can down the middle knowing the keeper won’t stand still.
One way not to do it is to kick the ball into the floor so it balloons wide and makes you look like a bit of a wally.
Unfortunately for former Leeds and Liverpool winger, that is exactly what Harry Kewell did. The Australian now plys his trade in the A-League for Melbourne Heart and yesterday the team found themselves two goals down to Alessandro Del Piero’s Sydney FC.
Kewell had the chance to half the deficit in the second half but instead, put in a shocking effort from the spot. If that’s not bad enough, he’s also missed the cut to release a ‘footballing gaffs’ stocking filler this Christmas. It really is a lose-lose situation.
Remember this man is the only Australian-born player to win a Champions League medal…
Kewell did get a bit of a panning from the commentators and fans for his naff effort, but fortunately his other half took up the fight on Twitter. Her use of hastags is very impressive #CalmDownCalmDown
