Ho Ho Ho. Welcome to my final blog before Christmas – although watch out for a festive Lucky 31 coming shortly – and there is no better time to take a few quid off Paddy with presents still to buy! You hear me Paddy?
I was looking forward to At Fishers Cross smashing up Celestial Halo in the Long Walk Hurdle. But with the latter a late absentee. the Cross is long odds on and should win.
The 2m handicap hurdle is another story though and Irish trainer Gordon Elliott already knows what it takes to win this event with 25/1 shocker Cause of Causes last year.
And I think his FLAXEN FLARE (3.35pm) has a cracking each-way chance this time.
Flaxen Flare is ultra consistent, and has come up against some of the best, including Jezki and Our Conor. He was a fine winner of the Fred Winter at Cheltenham, and is now 8lb better off with Dell’Arca for a just over 6l defeat last time.
He’s just the type to cruise round on the bridle and hopefully can show a telling turn of foot. He’s also a very decent price and Paddy’s paying five places. I like him a lot.
I have a feeling the classy pair Venetia Williams and Liam Treadwell could hold the key with EMPEROR’S CHOICE (2.05) in the featured Tommy Whittle Chase.
He’s a horse who stays well and likes testing conditions and returned to action at Fontwell last time. He’d every chance there until fading in the closing stages when lack of peak fitness told.
That should have put him spot on for this and it’s not the greatest renewal of this heat. He should go well.
So good luck with your betting in the final weekend of action before Christmas – here’s wishing you a very Merry and profitable Christmas. Yeeehohoho!
