It’s rare to see the two best teams in the NFL make it all the way to the Super Bowl. Bad luck, bad officiating, shitty weather and key injuries can all see a superior opponent felled by David wildly wavy his slingshot above his head, more in hope than expectation. For proof of this point please see Eli Manning.
It is a real anomaly in sport that Eli has more Super Bowl rings than his unquestionably more talented older brother. Peyton has a real chance to add to the ring he won with Indianapolis and even up the score by beating the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday. On Eli’s home field too.
After a record breaking season for the Denver Bronco’s in which he threw for 5447 yards and 55 touchdowns, Manning faces the best pass defence in the league. Seattle’s Richard Sherman has earned a lot of press attention for his outburst following the win over the 49ers. He may have come across as arrogant by claiming to be the best corner in the game but he’s not wrong. The key to success for the Seahawks will be Sherman’s Legion of Boom crew shutting Manning down. Force him to hurry his throws and he can be picked off. If Manning finds gaps in Seattle’s secondary Denver will be hard to slow down.
On the opposite side of the ball it’s a question of whether Denver’s excellent run defence can keep Marshwan Lynch quiet. If he can move the chains regularly there’ll be more options for Russell Wilson to make plays with the ball.
