Last week’s results on the road to Cheltenham 2014 threw up the likes of 66-1 howler Knockara Beau against Big Buck’s and 25-1 ‘rag’ The Rainbow Hunter. Paddy will have booked his holiday to Barbados with a horrible grin on his face.
Well Paddy – I’m here to wipe that smile away. You hear me?
The weather continues to play havoc with the fixture list but we can still do some structural damage to the Paddy Power bank account if we stick to the all weather at Lingfield – and if Sandown’s all-chase card passes a 7.45am inspection – that’s a bonus.
Let’s start with a few quid on REBELLIOUS GUEST (2.55pm) at Lingfield in the 1m handicap. He was a good winner last time at the track, swooping late off a decent pace.
There should be a gallop on once again here, and while he has gone up from a mark of 80 to 86 he has been much higher in the past. He could well go in again.
In the 1m4f handicap at the same track, I like the look of GRENDISAR (3.30pm). He’s dropped in trip having failed to get home over two miles the last time.
Although a mark of 90 is about right at the moment, it’s about time he won a race and big rival Blue Wave might just have reached his handicap peak for the time being.
Course winner who loves the mud
Weather permitting, at Sandown it’s all about mud-loving plodders in the 3m1f chase. SOLL (3.35pm) is well worth a look for Jo Hughes and Mark Grant. This is a very lightly-raced nine-year-old who returned with a fine fifth behind There’s no Panic at this track last time.
He’s a course winner and his four successes have come on ground either soft or even softer! Conditions will suit.
So while the weather does it’s best to wash racing – indeed everything – away get set for another weekend of taking on my nemesis Paddy Power. Bring it on! Yeeehaaa!
