God’s plan to turn northern Europe into the world’s largest waterpark looks like it’s a resounding success, but it has come at a price. Let’s just say you know it’s bad when the royal kids have been told to get off their pampered arses and get cracking on some flood defences.
After facing early morning inspections that we weren’t overly confident about both Wincanton and Gowran Park are scheduled to go ahead. We’ll keep an eye out if there’s any change to that. Quality cards at Ascot and Haydock look like they’ll happen. They also go at Lingfield on the all weather. There’s also racing at Meydan, but the only concerns they’re likely to have about liquid is if they have enough Moet.
Paul Nicholls even gave the Wincanton staff a shout-out:
Fantastic effort by Wincanton racecourse staff to get today’s racing on after storms last eve. Well done lads.

The majority of today’s FA Cup fifth round matches survive (Wednesday v Charlton hasn’t), but the league programme has been hit by several cancellations. Here’s the list of games that have definitely been postponed.
- Sheffield Wednesday v Charlton
- Coventry v Bradford
- Crawley v Carlisle
- Cheltenham v Wycombe
- Bury v Bristol Rovers
At the moment, that implies pretty much everything else goes ahead, but we doubt that very much and we’ll keep this updated throughout the day
