Euro 2016 betting: England 12/1 to be crowned champions in France

The Three Lions look a shoo-in for Euro 2016 but Ireland and Scotland face a Group D smash up.

by Sean Goff | February 23, 2014

Another major championship. Another handy draw for England.

Roy Hodgson & Co. can head to Brazil knowing that the formality of the Euro 2016 qualifiers shouldn’t cause them any sleepless night’s after the Three Lions pitched up in Group E against Switzerland, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania and best buds San Marino.

The England manager was doing his best travel agent impression in Nice without actually admitting that he couldn’t have gotten a handier draw if he’d done it himself.

I’m very satisfied [with the group], particularly for the fans. They’ve had some quite difficult trips in recent years and this time we go to places that are a little easier to get to and very pleasant to visit.

Bookmakaer reaction was swift and Paddy Power made England 12/1 to win Euro 2016.

Celtic rivals Ireland and Scotland are available at 4/5 and 6/5 respectively to qualify having been drawn in Group D together with Germany, Poland, Georgia and new entrants Gibraltar.

Wales are 7/4 to qualify after Chris Coleman’s side drew Bosnia, Belgium, Israel, Cypress and Andorra. Meanwhile Northern Ireland are 6/1 to go to France in two years time if they can overcome the likes of Greece, Hungary, Romania, Finland and the Faroe Islands and reach their their first major tournament since 1986.

Reigning champions Spain look assured of a place at the top table when the qualifiers begin next September – two months after the end of World Cup 2014.
