The great thing about horse racing is that there is always another present to open. So while Cheltenham 2014 might be done and dusted – there’s plenty of action to get our teeth stuck into once again this afternoon.
It was a special week and I hope you all had a terrific time at Prestbury Park. It was fabulous to win a few quid – maybe I’m funny in the head (say nothing), but taking cash off Paddy just makes me feel good inside. You hear me Paddy!
The big race this weekend is the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter and it’s a massively competitive heat.
I’d normally fee that FILL THE POWER (3.50pm) was in the handicapper’s grip. He was fifth in the Scottish National last year and was fifth in this event last year too behind Big Occasion.
But he goes in the soft, is a strong stayer and is in good form. He hacked up at Wetherby last time when jumping beautifully.
Have a look at Pele
At Kempton, the Rebecca Curtis-trained THE ROMFORD PELE (3.30pm) is worth a look. He was beaten under a length by Balder Success at Chepstow before finishing just four lenghts off Taquin du Seuil at Cheltenham last November. That form looks good now! He is well handicapped off 129.
The Silver Plate is a wide open, but LEGACY GOLD (2.55pm) just keeps winning and there may be more improvement to come over a longer trip. Tom Scudamore and trainer David Pipe have been in tremendous form this week. I expect a huge run here.
Finally, just take a look at RYDE BY KNIGHT(5.55pm) in the bumper at the same track. Reports are that he will run close in a race which Nicky Henderson won last year.
So that’s it for the time being – best of luck once again and I can’t wait for Paddy to have his pants by his ankles by the end of the weekend! Yeeehaaa!
