Punting Hall of Fame: Plucking a 1000/1 winner out of the Chelsea v Arsenal madness

A crazy unpredictable result from the Bridge. That someone predicted to a tea.

by Aidan Elder | March 22, 2014

‘Wow, are Chelsea really that good?’

‘Are Arsenal really that bad??’

‘Was that thing the ref did not a wee bit racist?’

That’s a somewhat sanitised summary of the comment swirling around on the interweb after today’s incredible early kick-off at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea stuck six past Arsenal, the Gunners were limper than Hugh Hefner without his Viagra supply and we saw one of the most incredible refereeing decisions in the history of the Premier League.

No-one could have predicted that. Could they?

Well, yes. One lucky Paddy Power customer from Yorkshire did. He somehow nailed the scorecast of Samuel Eto’o to score first and Chelsea to win 6-0 at odds of 1000/1!

1000/1

Imagine all the abuse he probably got from his friends.

‘Why are you doing that? Samuel Eto’o is old and this is going to be a cagey one between two of the Premier League’s giants.’

In this scenario, we’re imagining his friends are unimaginative Micheal Owen or Micheal Owen clones.

He only had 50p on it, but still – he picked out a 1000/1 winner. That’s not something many of us can say.

Well done anonymous sir. You truly deserve your place in the Paddy Power Punting Hall of Fame.
