Don’t you hate it when you’re reporting on an incident when a referee made a horrendous balls-up and then you yourself go and make a horrendous balls-up?
Yeah, it’s a pain, isn’t it?
Admittedly Pete Graves not being able to say ‘Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’ probably isn’t going to get quite as much attention as Andre Mariner’s ‘was that a wee bit racist?’ moment from the Chelsea v Arsenal game, but there was a certain irony to the presenter making an amusing dog’s dinner of the Ox’s name.
The momentary look of panic towards camera is obviously great, but my favourite part is when he looks across to Kate Abdo as if to say ‘this is your fault. You’re just so damn beautiful, I can’t concentrate on doing my job correctly.’ There was also a couple of seconds of Kate looking very awkward, but Vine didn’t want you to see that.
Yeah, it’s not the funniest thing ever, but we’re enjoying it mainly for its irony. That and the looking at such impossibly beautiful people bringing us pretty mundane sports news.
