For the first time I can remember I’ll be up at 6am on Good Friday to make my way to Lingfield for the all-weather championship Finals Day.
With £1m up for grabs it should be a cracker. Added to that Lingfield is the kind of track I like as there are many factors which can give us an edge over Paddy. You hear me Paddy?
First let’s have a look at FASHION LINE (2.20pm) for fillies and mares. I think Jamie Spencer will drop the selection out the back from a highish draw and then class will tell as she thunders home late and fast. The distance may be a bit sharp but there’ll be plenty of pace to compensate and I’m looking for a Spencer special here.
ERTIJAAL (2.55pm) looks to have the three-year-old championship at his mercy. He has a much better draw than on his seasonal debut and I expect him to win.
The 1m 7f marathon is tricky with class act Blue Wave not certain to stay the distance. The improver in this race is LITIGANT (3.30pm) who may well be able to land the big prize from an reasonable draw in stall eight.
The draw will also play a crucial part in the sprint. Outside berths make it very tough for Rivellino, Addictive Dream and Hasopop. At what will be a decent price from a fine berth take a chance with the old boy HAWKEYETHENOO (4.05pm), who might just get an electric pace to run at and thrust home with a rare rattle.
The Mile conditions stakes is competitive and the value might rest with CHOOKIE ROYALE (4.40pm), who has been a fine servant and goes well at most of the all-weather tracks. He could have been drawn kinder than stall nine – but it’s not an impossible box to come from.
Finally I will be with GRANDEUR (5.20pm) in the Easter Classic. Despite a terrible run last time he’s been gifted stall two and the cheek-pieces have been taken off.
So let’s hope it is a Good Friday by taking some of Paddy’s cash. And how about free Easter eggs for all your customers Paddy? Yeeehaaa!
