Manchester City v West Brom betting preview: Three value bets to round off a Bank Holiday Monday

by Sean Goff | April 20, 2014

Even Manuel Pellegrini’s should be able to do the maths. City can’t afford another slip up against West Brom like the 2-2 draw against Sunderland last week or their very slim title dreams will be shot for another season.

The Baggies haven’t beaten the Citizens in their last eight league clashes and City are long odds on (1/5f) to see off Pepe Mel’s side (11/1) who are unbeaten in three.

With the long weekend coming to an close quicker than Rio Ferdinand’s career – here’s three bets that might just postpone the Tuesday morning blues.

Aguero first goalscorer @5/2

Aguero is 5/2 to get the first goal of the game or 9/5 to score first for his side who have taken the lead in 75 per cent of their matches. The Argentine international is averaging nearly a goal a game when fit. He has 26 goals in all competitions and scored the opener in the 3-2 away win at West Brom last December.

Manchester City to win (-2 on the handicap) 7/5

Before the Black Cats shocked them, the Citizens had won their previous two home games against Fulham (5-0) and Southampton (4-1) . With 88 goals in 33 games City are the second top scorers behind in the PL behind Liverpool.

City have won 17 of their 22 games by two goals or more and have won their last four home games against the Baggies 4-2, 3-0, 4-0 & 1-0.

The Midlanders have been giving up soft goals lately that has cost them at least four points in their relegation dog fight. They were 2-0 and 3-1 up against Cardiff with seconds remaining before drawing 3-3 and let Spurs back in for a point after taking a 3-0 lead in their last game.

Manchester City 6/5 to win to nil / evens to keep a clean sheet

Joe Hart looked slower than a asthmatic snail trying to get down to Connor Wickham’s low shot to give Sunderland a 2-1 lead but City have still managed to keep 13 clean sheets this season.

With a defence meaner than Simon Cowell they’ve conceded just 34 goals in 33 games and their last three home league games against Baggies have seen them win 1,0, 4-0 and 3-0.
