To celebrate Ryan Giggs’ 40th birthday at the end of November last year we scoured the history books for the top 40 stats on the Welshman that would blow your mind. Now six months or so later, and Giggs has retired from playing to concentrate on being assistant manager of the club under new gaffer Louis Van Gaal.

To celebrate his new role as the assistant boss we’re bringing the stats back, so sit back and learn 40 mind blowing things you didn’t know about Giggsy.

1. Giggs’ first goal for Manchester United was probably not his. It came in a 1-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday May 4, 1991 via a massive deflection off Colin Hendry

2. United have played 4,360 times in the league since 1892. Giggs has played in approx 15 per cent of these games.
