Luis Suarez. Eden Hazard. Yaya Toure. These are the names you expect to be bandied around when football websites and magazines name what is, in their opinion, the best Premier League team of the season.
You probably don’t expect to see Liam Rosenior, Steve Sidwell or Jason Puncheon knocking about the starting line-up, but that’s where you’ve got it wrong. Thanks to the wizardry of one of our reporting guys in Power Tower, we’ve dug out the most profitable 11 players of the year and the results are pretty mental.
Just three players from the top six clubs. Two representatives from Hull and two more from Fulham. Luis Suarez wouldn’t even make the bench!
Here is the team that would have pocketed you the most cash if you’d backed all ten outfield players to score each week, and the goalie to keep a clean sheet…
Incredibly these are the players that you should have been backing week-in-week-out to make the most goalscorer profit this season. Although if you have been backing this squad since August, then you probably need your head testing. It’s hardly a stellar line-up of talent.
A £5 each-way bet on each of the ten outfield players would have cost you £100 each Premier League game-week, however up to now you would have a total of £6,268.75 in your back pocket. That’s a 76 per cent return on your investment and just short of £3k in pure profit! It’s probably the worst ‘Best XI’ you’ll see this season.
In other good news for Paddy Power punters, if you had miraculously been backing these players every week, that £2,708 in pure profit would be nine per cent more than you would have got backing the same players with SkyBet this season #Zing
In total these ten players have scored 31 first goals of the game and found the onion bag at anytime in 51 games all together – that’s where the each-way part of the bet comes in, something that not many other bookies offer. Below is a breakdown of how much each outfield player would have won you if you’d been sticking £5 each-way on them to score first each week. It also shows why we’ve made Skrtel our Dream Team captain.
Individual profit this season
Martin Skrtel: +£565
Ashkan Dejagah: +£400
Jake Livermore: +£276.25
Seamus Coleman: +£256.25
Jose Fonte: +£242.50
Morgan Amalfitano: +£242.50
Steve Sidwell: +£208.75
Jason Puncheon: +£194.38
Jay Rodriguez: +£174.38
Liam Rosenior: +£148.75
Cech this out…
We’ve also stuck Petr Cech in between the sticks, although with Skrtel and Jose Fonte in front of you who really needs a keeper? Chelsea are the second most profitable team to back this year (behind Sunderland incredibly!) and Cech has racked up 16 clean sheets in the process. You’d be up 27 per cent backing Chelsea every week and you’d have almost £90 in profit if you kept putting a tenner on Jose’s men in each league game.
For those reasons it was hard not to leave out the big man.
