Find out how Arsenal players respond when they read your mean tweets

Three Gunners stars step up to the plate to respond to some cheeky scamps giving them abuse on Twitter

by Josh Powell | May 8, 2014

In a long season of Ball of Shame behaviour punters haven’t been shy in dishing out the insults to some of the Premier Leagues top players, and normally footballers wouldn’t get the chance to prove these people wrong. Until now. We rocked up to the Arsenal training ground in the quaint village of Colney near St Albans, to put your mean tweets straight to the players.

Find out for yourself how Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mikel Arteta react when they read your cheap digs…

And here’s how the three punters reacted on the Twitter machine on Wednesday when they saw the stars reacting to their insults:

On the day of filming, in April, all three players were well up for putting punters in their place. Per Mertesacker genuinely seems to enjoy a glass of cold milk and is also good for a giggle, particularly when it’s at one of the other’s expense.

Lukas Podolski did his best to rack up a massive Paddy Power bill by pinging car windows in the car-park behind the barn door while proving that he can hit the ball ridiculously hard without exerting much effort. The striker did manage to ping the barn door with ease but unfortunately for the German, the crafty video editors preferred the clips of him trying to break the GoPro camera on the top of it, and consequently skying it.

Mikel Arteta seemed to enjoy his time with Nana Wilson almost too much. Despite managing to find the post with his first penalty – we let him have that as a ‘practice’ – Arteta then got into the habit of burying them with a bit of penache. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of Nana Wilson, although she was rocking some sweet Nike Tiempo boots.

It’s been a good year for you Arsenal fans with an FA Cup final around the corner, Champions League football next year and finishing above Tottenham (yet again!) It gets even better when you’ve been punting with Paddy Power. Here’s why…

  • Paddy has been best price on Arsenal in 47 per cent of their league matches, offering much better value than Bet365 (17 per cent), Ladbrokes (31 per cent) or Skybet (11 per cent);
  • Olivier Giroud is the most profitable goalscorer for Arsenal and one of the most profitable players in the league overall. He’s scored 15 goals across 12 matches and if you backed him every week you’d be up 19 per cent on singles and 65 per cent on each way bets. We love Giroud in Power Tower and you would have made 82 per cent more money backing him with Paddy than with William Hill, and 89 per cent more than if you backed him with Skybet;
  • The Gunners have had the bean-counters scrambling because we’ve paid out £42k in accumulator bonuses on Arsenal across 5,000 bets in just two months.
