The final day in the Premier League wasn’t quite as dramatic as plenty of neutrals would have been hoping, but it certainly was for one Irish punter.
The gentleman in question staked €1,000 online on a Premier League nine-fold in an attempt to finish the season with a bang. And boy, did he deliver.
It takes balls to put on an accumulator which includes two draws, and it takes a fair bit of confidence to put on a nine-fold on the last day of the season when plenty of teams have nothing to play for. Throw in his stake and this guy’s cajones are like wrecking balls. It’s the kind of behavior that would lend itself to our Stupid Punt section, but this time it came off.
The Leinster punter won just over €477,000 with the bet, but thanks to Paddy’s acca bonus that has been running for a few months now, he cashed in on an extra €100,000. Hitting the boss right where it hurts. That promotion does not look so clever now.
Here is the whopping bet in full:
Every bet needs a dollop of luck, and this punter certainly had his with Stoke’s winner coming courtesy of Charlie Adam in the 87th minute and Chris David’s equaliser for Fulham came deep into stoppage time. The other results looked fairly comfortable towards the end but it would have been squeaky bum-time as he awaited the final whistle at Craven Cottage.
This punter is probably going to be suffering from a night’s partying tomorrow, but it’s nothing compared to Paddy’s pain when the bean-counters have their Monday morning meeting!
