Ruby Walsh will ride Nicky Henderson’s 2011 Gold Cup winner Long Run at Auteuil in France on Sunday.
“Long Run has won three out of four races over fences at Auteuil. It’s not a ride to turn down,” Ruby told the Paddy Power Blog on Friday morning.
Ruby (above) takes over on Long Run in the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris due to French racing rules which rule out amateur Sam Waley-Cohen. Henderson’s main man Barry Geraghty is suspended after stewards found him in breach of whip rules following a ride on Hadrians Approach at Sandown on April 26.
Waley-Cohen (main image) is the only jockey who has ridden Long Run (since he left France) and has won four Grade Ones on the horse.
There’s a pot of about €850,000 on offer too at Auteuil, one of the world’s most valuable jumps races, something which probably makes Walsh’s decision to leave Kildare for the weekend a little easier.
