In what has been lauded as one of the biggest shocks in UFC history Alpha Male’s TJ Dillashaw finally brought UFC gold to the camp with his sensational fifth round stoppage win over Renan Barao.
The UFC 173 main event in Las Vegas was expected to extend Renan Barao’s unbeaten streak to 34 fights with TJ Dillashaw as big as a 9/1 underdog in the run up to the fight. However, many believe due to the the tutelage of Duane “Bang” Ludwig, Dillashaw looked on another level to a man Dana White claimed was the pound-for-pound number one in the world. A contentious claim but Barao was certainly in the top five in MMA before this loss.
Dillashaw landed a thunderous right hand at the end of the first round and never looked back. Bewitching footwork and accurate striking left Barao battered and confused before the new bantamweight champion poured forward in the fifth round, stunning Barao with a head kick before pummeling him to a finish.
