Luis Suarez. A seemingly innocuous coming together with an opponent. A furious defender pointing at his upper arm trying to convince the referee of something untoward.
We’ve been here before, but for reasons known only to Suarez himself, we’re going there again. Uruguay’s superstar marksman and football’s most famous cannibal is once again under the spotlight for an alleged biting incident.
With not long to go in Uruguay’s winner takes all showdown with Italy, Suarez got tangled up with Giorgio Chiellini. While in real time it looked like Suarez moved his head in the general direction of Chiellini’s, a few replays and the Italian’s complaints suggest there was much more to it. There’s a hint of what happened below, but nothing absolutely conclusive:

Still though, nothing is proven as yet, FIFA have confirmed that it will be investigated. There’s no ‘three strikes and you’re out rule’ for biting, but if he’s found to have tucked in to another opponent, Suarez is likely to face a ban of some description. At the moment, the odds are heavily leaning towards some kind of ban.

Beyond that, it’s hard to know what the future holds for Liverpool’s star. With rumoured interest from abroad, will Liverpool want to stand by their man through yet another controversy or will the bite the bullet and let him go?
