Timothy Matthew Howard, take a bow.
The USA goalkeeper (35) made 16 saves during his country’s Round of 16 game against Belgium on Tuesday night at Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador.
That’s the most in one game since records began in 1966.
Below, watch a GIF of all Howard’s saves against the likes of Eden Hazard, Divock Origi and Dries Mertensas as he single-handedly forced the game into extra-time. (If it takes a while to load, please be patient – there’s a lot of awesomeness here).
Belgium won 2-1 in extra-time of course and will face Argentina in the quarter-finals at Estádio Nacional de Brasilia on Saturday.
After Howard’s masterclass, Belgium captain Vincent Kompany tweeted: ‘Two words: TIM HOWARD. Respect.’
That’s three words, Vincent, but we get your point.
