Chris Froome took another tumble in the Tour De France this afternoon, hitting the tarmac for the third time in two days. Unsurprisingly when there is just a minute layer of lycra between the gravel and your body, the defending champ decided enough was enough and hopped into the Team Sky car retiring after stage five of the big race.
The powers that be in Power Tower decided that wasn’t much of a run for punters money, and are refunding all single bets placed on Froom in the outright market, up until Tuesday July 9 at 2.45pm. That’s a refund of just over £18,000 to punters who backed last year’s winner to make it two in a row.
Froome fell heavily on stage four, injuring his right wrist and two subsequent tumbles today have ended his Tour De France dreams. On Wednesday he fell 30km into the stage and then again just before the 70km mark as the wet weather made the roads super slippy. The Brit started the day in seventh, just two seconds behind the leader Vincenzo Nibali and was well backed to triumph in the toughest cycling race of them all.
His body has taken a battering after three falls, but punters wallets won’t feel the hit as Paddy coughs up and refunds those losing bets.
There doesn’t seem to be any quality footage of the Froome incident appearing on Twitter just yet, however we presume this is a more humorous version of what happened.
