Named the worst place in the US to live, it’s where the river once caught fire because of the horrendous pollution and where the sports teams haven’t won a major sports title since 1948.
But by the end of this year Cleveland could be the most talked about destination in the sporting world.

The return of LeBron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers was announced on Friday evening. With the Cavs trading away players to free up enough cash to sign the most dominant basketball player of his generation, the stage is set for the man branded a traitor after the “Decision” fiasco that accompanied his exit in 2010.
LeBron joins a team stacked with young talent and the Cavs instantly become relevant in a very poor Eastern Conference. The team’s young legs would help James as he heads into his veteran years.
And yet, LeBron is likely to play second-fiddle to a kid from Texas who has yet to make his professional debut. His name is Johnny Manziel.
Otherwise known as Johnny Football, Manziel was a college football superstar. He was the first player to win the Heisman Trophy (awarded to the best player in college football) as a freshman, and wowed with his athletic displays at quarterback for Texas A&M. Playing in the toughest league in the country, Johnny Football ran around like a 5-year old in the park, seemingly without a care in the world, while throwing for more yards than former-college legends Cam Newton and Tim Tebow.
But Johnny was never far from controversy as his swagger off the field was too much for some. No more so than his money gesture after being selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd-pick of the draft.
He’s a classic boom-or-bust. He has all the talent in the world but accusations of being immature have followed him and haven’t been helped by his regular appearances in the tabloids. Highlights have included being photographed partying in Las Vegas, out with Justin Bieber and yes, swigging champagne while riding an inflatable swan.
Manziel is the superstar the Cleveland Brown fans have been craving. He could lead them to their first Super Bowl, or he could be passed out drunk in a Vegas strip club. Either way, it’s going to be fascinating to watch, as Cleveland fans hope it’s their teams rather than their river that catches fire this year.
