Matt Chapman exclusive: I’m Havana one last crack at Cooler to get Glorious Goodwood off to a flyer

Goodwood starts on Tuesday and I'm all over one of the busiest weeks in the racing calendar. Yeeehaaa!

by Matt Chapman | July 27, 2014

On the back of banging out the King George winner Taghrooda for you – I’m primed for five days of Glorious Goodwood with a spring in my step and winners ready to flow. You hear me Paddy?

Tuesday’s card kicks the action off and get ready for a huge run from MAGIC HURRICANE (1.55pm) who is going to enjoy a drop down in trip. He’s won at Kempton and Haydock and was third at the Lancashire course also on his last run and I’m sure a  strongly run 1m 2f is what he wants. The James Fanshawe stable is in good form which is a boost for the selection.

The Group 3 Molecomb Stakes is a tough race to call, but Richard Hannon’s BEACON (2.30pm) really should be hard to beat off a rating of 107. He disappointed on the debut, but he’s improved with every race since and has a telling turn of foot.

The Hannon team have a decent chance of doubling up in the Lennox Stakes with TOORMORE (3.05pm)

He was a Group 1 winning juvenile and won the Craven Stakes and has a realistic chance to score this season after tackling the 2,000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes. This shorter 7f might be his perfect trip and stall six is a fair draw.

Havana Laugh?

I’m going to stick with Luca Cumani’s HAVANA COOLER (3.40pm) in the hugely competitive Summer Stakes. I’ve followed this one over a cliff this season but a step up to 1m 6f could be exactly what he needs – and I’ll give him one last try.

I’ll be here all week and with four more days of Goodwood and the Galway Plate (Wed) and Galway Hurdle (Thurs) to come. It promises to be one hell of a few days – so be sure to join me and let’s get the Yeeehaaa’s flowing.
