So how have you found Goodwood so far? Its been a tough one for yours truly – but we started to claw it back yesterday with two winners and three placed from five selections.
It was great to watch Missunited’s courageous win at Goodwood and a real loss that this great race mare won’t run any more after injury.
Let’s have a look at Friday’s opener – the Group 3 Coutts Glorious Stakes, which sees the return of Encke who on ratings should win easily.
However, we have to have an each-way selection against a horse who has been off the track 685 days, and the one I like is PETHER’S MOON (1.55pm), who brings it to the table every time and is sure to be bang there at the finish. He’s taken on some of the best and deserves a change of luck.
The 1m Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes is at the mercy of Classic contenders. Shifting Power has been fourth and second in the English and Irish 2000 Guineas this term. However, he’s not a horse I want to back at short odds – neither is Lightning Thunder who was second in the Irish 1000 Guineas.
I’m taking a chance WANNABE YOURS (2.30pm) is improving fast enough to get the third place with just eight runners or maybe back him ‘without’ the likely market leaders. He looked special at Doncaster last time and is the good old night out horse – he can do it from the front and behind!
Hello Ladies …
The big betting race on the card is the 1m handicap and I’m going for an each-way punt on PASTORAL PLAYER (3.05pm). His runs before at Goodwood have been good and while he will need luck from the back as his stamina is stretched to the limit, he certainly has the ability to win a race like this – and is a big price.
The King George Stakes is the big sprint and hopefully LADIES ARE FOREVER (3.40pm) will get a better run than 12 months ago, when she was an unlucky fifth.
She’s in form and should give us a big shout. So good luck and watch out Paddy – we’re back in the game! Yeeehaaa!
