Rickie Lambert arrived at Anfield with a 100 per cent penalty record for former club Southampton. 34 penalty kicks, 34 goals. It was a remarkable record, made even more unbelievable when you consider that Lambert is most certainly English, and consequently should be unable to hold his nerve from 12 yards.
Unfortunately for the striker, his first effort in a Liverpool shirt was pretty shocking and easily saved by AC Milan keeper Christian Abbiati in the International Champions Cup. Admittedly it means pretty much nothing. It was a meaningless friendly, in a tournament in which Liverpool were already through to the final, and he was under little-to-no pressure.
However if you believe in omens, maybe you should start to get worried. If you don’t buy in to all that nonsense and just want to see the vine, here it is:
Liverpool won the game 2-0 thanks to goals from Joe Allen and Suso and were pretty much untroubled by a poor AC Milan side. Brendan Rodgers’ men now face a super spicy final showdown with Manchester United in Miami on Monday night.
