Rivals may point to Steven Gerrard’s slip against Chelsea in last season’s Premier League title race as the biggest comedy moment in Liverpool’s recent history.
But a new movie from Stray Dogs Films, in association with Liverpool FC, gives a light-hearted look at one of the greatest nights for the club — their 2005 Champions League final victory in Istanbul against AC Milan.
One Night In Istanbul, based on the original play by Nicky Allt, is a fictional crime/comedy. The plot centres on two unfortunate Liverpool taxi drivers who strike a dodgy deal to take their sons to the Champions League final.
The film is released through Odean on September 11 and is an opportunity for Liverpool fans to relive the magic of that night (and remember Mr Gerrard for his greatest moment in a Liverpool shirt). Non-Reds can enjoy some laughs too, via a cast that includes Paul Barber (The Full Monty, Only Fools and Horses), Samantha Womack (Eastenders, Game On), Steven Waddington (Sleepy Hollow, The Parole Officer) and Lucien Laviscount (Waterloo Road, Grange Hill).
It’s got guns, gangsters, bags of cash, and a soundtrack that includes Cast. We can’t wait.
