After the scandal that was his points loss to Diego Sanchez last time out, Ross Pearson (29) got himself back to winning ways in Bangor, Maine and is now on hos ways towards title contention. The Sunderland man picked up his first win in three fights after the No Contest due to an illegal knee against Melvin Guillard and then the outright robbery that was his loss over Sanchez…in Sanchez’s hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Pearson remained calm as Gray Maynard edged the first round with his takedowns. In the second round the British fighter started succesfully stuffing the takedowns and landing with his strikes. He showed he has the power to be a danger at the upper end of the Lightweight division with this decisive victory over a former title challenger.
As for Maynard this may be one of the last times we see the 35 year old compete in the octagon. One last dance to finish with a win perhaps.
