It’s that time of year when you almost start to think about the jumps, but then remember there’s two St Leger Classics, Champions weekends in Ireland and the UK, the Arc de Triomphe, Breeders’ Cup and Melbourne Cup still to come. So plenty of Flat action to come on the Paddy Power Blog which means some serious Paddy bashing!
You hear me Paddy? Right, this weekend, let’s start with the Solario Stakes at Sandown where the ground should continue to dry out.
I was really taken by FUTURE EMPIRE (2.40pm) when he won at Newmarket first time up. The second, third and fourth in that race all went on to win their next start. So the form is red hot.
Godolphin are desperate for a good prospect and this just might be the one. James Doyle is a good booking and Saeed bin Suroor did nothing to put me off when I spoke to him on the Newmarket gallops last Wednesday morning.
The German raider DIAMOND DOVE (3.15pm), who brings in fine Group 1 German form and the three-year-old filly gets weight from her main rivals. She ran a fine second last time at Dusseldorf out and can take care of Fintry and Zibelina for Freddie Tylicki and Andreas Lowe.
Go low for dough …
Beverley’s Bullet Sprint Listed Stakes gives PEARL SECRET (2.25pm) the chance to win a decent event. He’s been a little bit disappointing for me but with the draw playing a big part and with low numbers favoured in the likely conditions David Barron’s charge can reward his trainer’s opinion of him from stall one.
Paddy’s refunding on the 2nd & 3rd placed horses at Sandown (3.50pm) and has already forked out 750,000 free bets this year with the offer – but I’m heading going north to Chester for my final selection.
Although well beaten in the Ebor at York last weekend – I’m hoping DE RIGEUR (3.30pm) can bounce back to winning ways at the Roodee in the Listed Handicap Chester Stakes. Marco Botti’s runner gets 6lb from Whiplash Willie on Saturday while another rival Gabrial is out of form. This contest looks winnable
So best of luck, and let’s hope for four Yeeehaaas!
