Trader Insight: Some handicapper has been acting the bollox at Sandown

by Paddy Power | August 29, 2014

Sandown and The Curragh provide interesting cards this weekend. Andre Fabre raiders are always worth noting and his Fintry should take plenty of beating in the Atalanta Stakes (15.15).

At the Curragh, the exciting Joe Murphy-trained Sheperd’s Purse makes a quick reappearance after his very taking debut win at HQ last weekend.

For a bet we turn to the St James’ Theatre handicap at Sandown (15.50)This race (our Money-Back Special for Saturday) seems aptly named as the handicapper has clearly been acting the bollox in allocating the William Haggas-trained Mount Shamsan an opening mark of 83.

His last two maiden runs suggest this is very lenient and the fact his shrewd trainer pitches him into a £60k race indicates a feeling that using the 10lb he has in hand here is preferable to getting a similar rise for winning an easier but much less valuable prize elsewhere. The ground shouldn’t be an issue. Granted he is favourite but the price still appeals and he rates a good bet.
