Last week we took a kick to the plums as Brendan Rodgers felt the need to drop Raheem Sterling for Aston Villa’s trip to Anfield. Cue three lost points for Liverpool, but more drastically a Fantasy Football meltdown in Power Tower which resulted in the mother of all hissy-fits. As Diego Costa knocked in a hat-trick to take his tally to seven goals in four games, we contemplated giving him the armband for the rest of the season to prevent such Saturday heartbreak, however this week the traders are suggesting otherwise.

Due to Manchester City’s Super Sunday clash with Chelsea, neither Diego Costa nor Sergio Aguero make the bookies list of the top 10 most likely strikers to find the onion bag this weekend. Rather the table is filled with Man United, Tottenham and Everton players who face Leicester, West Brom and Crystal Palace respectively.
Top of the charts is new United signing Radamel Falcao who will be keen to start this Sunday after a brief cameo appearance last week. He hasn’t played a whole lot of football however and at a cost of 11.0 he’ll break a few banks trying to fit him into your squad. Romelu Lukaku (9.0) and Emmanuel Adebayor (8.6) are the only other two strikers odds-on to score this weekend. Both men have just one goal in four games and Adebayor has two assists to Lukaku’s one.
It might therefore be worth gambling on Steven Naismith. The striker has three goals in four games and his tally reads 9-9-6-1. Take last week’s single point against West Brom away and you have a player bang in form for just 5.6 – almost half the price as Falcao. Plus, according to our traders, he is just as likely to score this weekend as Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney.
In the middle of the park the usual names – Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Raheem Sterling, Angel Di Maria and Aaron Ramsey – all make an appearance. These guys guarantee a good return and merit splashing a bit of cash to get them in. However if you’re looking for a cheaper option this week, you’d do worse than heading to White Hart Lane.
Nacer Chadli has racked up 26 points in just three games – the fifth highest of any midfielder this season. He has three goals, a clean sheet and four bonus points to his name and, at 6.1, could be the bargain of the week as Spurs host a weak West Brom side.
At the back and Everton are the only odds-on side to keep out the opposition this weekend.
Tim Howard played a blinder in the Europa League in midweek – making 12 saves against Wolfsburg and equaling the Europa League record. The bearded one will have plenty of managers piling in at just 5.4. In front of him the duo of Seamus Coleman (7.0) and Leighton Baines (6.9) are likely to add an assist or a goal to a potential clean sheet and will already be a staple of many fantasy sides.
Interestingly both Man City and Chelsea are well down the list of likely teams to keep a clean sheet so cheaper options elsewhere might take your fancy rather than a premium defender this week. Newcastle are in turmoil, however they’ve got a home game against Hull on Saturday and are the fifth-most-likely side to pick up a clean sheet at the odds. It may pay to look at the less obvious this weekend.
