It’s that time of year when there’s just a little eye on the jumps, but this weekend we still go Flat racing crazy at Newmarket and then there’s the Arc, Breeders’ Cup and Melbourne Cup still to come.
I’m buzzing. to take a few quid off Paddy and with more than 30 runners in the Cambridgeshire thundering down the course at HQ – we’ll need luck in running.
The likely favourite Cornrow has stamina to prove and while he might well be good enough as a lightly-raced improver I will take him on. The one I like is NICEOFYOUTOTELLME (3.50pm) who is ridden by the excellent James Doyle for Ralph Beckett in a race where Paddy is paying the first 5 home.
The selection was a good winner at Newmarket off a mark of 90 three runs back. He was far from disgraced next time at Ascot or last time at Goodwood when things did not go to plan. This horse is well capable of running huge.
I like NAFAQA (2.35pm) in the Royal Lodge Stakes who on ratings should win. He might just have a bit too much pace for Elm Park who will be grinding it out from the front. The latter is tough – but Nafaqa might be more talented.
The Cheveley Park Stakes is often won by a decent sprinter in the making – and even a Classic contender. Tiggy Wiggy is the former and will take all the beating – but at the odds have an each-way wager on ANTHEM ALEXANDER (3.10pm). He was beaten two lengths by the market leader last time but just might be a bit better than that form suggests.
At Ripon I’ve had a close look at the 1m 4f handicap and want to have a few quid each-way on BAYAN KASIRGA (4.30pm). This runner is well drawn and has hit form recently over slightly longer trips. He has won off a mark much higher than this before over this trip. Take the hint.
So let’s hope for a few Yeeehaaas! and another good weekend on the PP Blog. Boom!
