Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Infographic: The stats that could pinpoint Sunday’s winner

The best race in Europe takes place in Paris this weekend and Paddy's gone 1/4 the odds the first four home

by Sean Goff | October 1, 2014

The fag-end of the Flat season is fast approaching but Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp (3.30pm) is one of the best races in the calendar.

Injury ruled Frankie Dettori of the winning ride on Treve is last year’s Arc. But the good news for the three-time winning jock (see Infograpic below) is that he’ll partner 2013 Epsom Derby winner Ruler of the World for Aidan O’Brien who won the Group 2 Prix Foy over course and distance last month.

The not-so-good news for the Italian is that O’Brien has supplemented Yorkshire Oaks winner Tapestry with the world’s best big-race jockey Ryan Moore on board while son Joseph rides Irish Oaks winner Chicquita in a race where Paddy’s paying 1/4 the odds the first 4 home.

John Gosden’s Epsom Oaks winner Taghrooda – beaten last time by Tapestry at York before she blotted her copy book at Leopardstown – heads the Arc betting along with Ectot and Just a Way – one of three Japanese challengers.

Who’ll win? Here’s a snazzy infographic (from our ace, yet very modest design team) to help you pick a winner.

Paddy went non-runner no bet on the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe early in the week and Friday morning’s draw threw up a potentially difficult path for English Classic winners Taghrooda and Kingston Hill to navigate.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe draw:
1 – Avenir Certain
2 – Gold Ship
3 – Treve
4 – Flintshire
5 – Dolniya
6 – Ruler Of The World
7 – Al Kazeem
8 – Tapestry
9 – Prince Gibraltar
10 – Ectot
11 – Montviron
12 – Harp Star
13 – Spiritjim
14 – Just A Way
15 – Taghrooda
16 – Siljan’s Saga
17 – Free Port Lux
18 – Chicquita
19 – Ivanhowe
20 – Kingston Hill

Paddy’s given us the low-down on the family’s speedster Sole Power  who’s looking to break his duck in the Group One Prix de l’Abbaye on Sunday (12.45pm) where we’re also paying 1/5 the odds on the first 4 home on a weekend where all the Group One races over the two days in Paris are now priced up.
