The two-year-olds take centre stage at Newmarket on Friday with three Group One races up for grabs.
Heavy rain has changed the going to heavy making things tricky for punters. Jim Bolger’s Lucida (3.25pm) looks a worthy favourite in the Fillies’ Mile and she has already won on soft ground.
The shortest-price favourite ante-post in the three Group races could be Richard Hannon’s unbeaten Ivawood (2.55pm) in the Middle Park Stakes. But he looks the most vulnerable to my eyes. His pedigree gives serious ground concerns as his dam produced three dismal efforts on easy turf.
I think we should take him on with stablemate KOOL KOMPANY (2.55pm).
This fella has had a busy season but seems a hardy sort and will relish the ground. His defeat in a sales race last time out was a little disappointing but excusable as the draw played a significant role in the race. He rates a sporting bet at about seven times his stablemate’s price.
