Fantasy Football tips: We’re cheering on Southampton this weekend, as the Saints go marching on

Hopefully Ronald Koeman's men can keep the Fantasy Football points flowing in

Gameweek Eight

The international break is over and two weeks of fretting about our Fantasy team has finally come to an end. The traders have all the Premier League games priced up, and we’re using the prices to guide us on the way to FF glory. We’re almost a fifth of the way through the season and it’s time to kick-on towards Christmas, so here’s who you need to shore up your defence, and bag you goals from the middle of the park.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City make up three of the top four sides most likely to keep a clean sheet this week, and that means if you don’t already have the players in, you’ll need to break the bank to do so. The cheapest option from those top three teams is likely to be Nacho Monreal at 4.9, however with Arsenal’s injury crisis you wouldn’t be overly convinced that they’ll comfortably see off Hull, even at the Emirates.

Southampton have a home fixture this weekend against Sunderland and the traders fancy the Saints to keep the Black Cats out. They’ve just picked up both the Manager of the Month and Player of the Month awards, and the mood is good around St Mary’s. Ryan Bertrand is a good option if you’re backing Southampton, and at 5.3 he isn’t going to break the bank. He has three clean sheets in seven games and can also add an assist and a goal to his points haul this season. The odds suggest he could be a value punt to pick up four clean sheet points.

As for your attack, Diego Costa is unsurprisingly involved, but Gunners fans have reason to be hopeful and there’s more surprise Saints names knocking around…

Who is going to get you goals in gameweek eight of Fantasy Football

It comes as no surprise to see Diego Costa red-hot odds on at 8/11 to find the net as Chelsea head to Crystal Palace. There’s no point avoiding the obvious. This guy has to be your captain. Nine goals in seven games says it all. If he’s not in your team already you’re fighting a losing battle.

If you’re looking for a bit of value however, take a peek at Arsenal and Southampton. As mentioned, the Gunners’ injury list is massive and that might mean a start for Chuba Akpom. The 19-year-old scored a brace for England Under-20s in their 3-2 win against Holland last week and might get a rare start for Arsenal this weekend at home to Hull. It’s a decent gamble, but at 4.9 it’s a bet to nothing if your bench is strong enough. If he does get any decent amount of game time, he could realistically deliver the goods at a cheap price.

Back at Southampton and Dusan Tadic is high up the list of anytime goalscorers. He hasn’t found the back of the net this season, however he is stronger at home and that suggests this weekend could be his time to shine. In his last two away games Tadic has racked up a combined score of four points, however at St Mary’s in his last two games he has a combined total of 11 points, courtesy of two assists. It looks like a case of home comforts for Tadic and at 7.5 could be one to consider bringing in, particularly if you have a Tottenham midfielder facing a tricky test away to Man City.
