Paddy’s Punt: This 5/1 shot has the form in the book if she handles the Ascot going

Improving filly ticks all the right boxes on Champions Stakes Day - if she doesn't get stuck in the mud

by Paddy Power | October 17, 2014

The heavy ground isn’t ideal for Champions Day at Ascot but six competitive high-class races will always float my boat.

There’s plenty of multiple winners and punter’s favourites on show at good prices – but the one that appeals most to me runs in the Fillies and Mares Stakes (2.55pm).

She has never run on ground this testing before but both sides of Hadaatha’s pedigree offer reasons for optimism. She also looks to be crying out for a step up in trip.

Her last run in France where she was undone by a modest early pace is arguably the best form on offer. This is only her fifth start so she’s open to more improvement.

With the ground of only minor concern Roger Varian’s filly looks worth a meaty punt to me at around the 5/1 mark.
