Don’t be shirt-changed! Paddy Power is refunding all top goalscorer bets on Mario Balotelli

Oh, Mario... at least you've given some Paddy Power customers some good news

by Paul Mallon | October 23, 2014

Paddy Power has refunded all bets placed on Mario Balotelli as Premier League top goalscorer.

The move, which followed hasty shouting between disgruntled Liverpool fans in the Sportsbook department, comes after motivationally-challenged Mario gave another no-goal performance, against Real Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday night.

At least he got a souvenir of the night though, as he casually switched his shirt with the lovely Pepe at half-time.

A spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “Enough is enough and with not one goal scored in the Premier League and the lad acting like he hasn’t a care in the world, it’s about time our punters saw at least some return on the so-called Super Mario. We won’t be having the shirt off anyone’s back and hope our refund will help bring at least a small smile back to the Kop this weekend.”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said he will deal with Mario Balotelli today after the Italian striker swapped shirts with Pepe at half-time in the 3-0 Champions League defeat.

Here’s the incident…

“It is not something I stand for,” Rodgers said. “If you want to do that, do it at the end of the game.”

Balotelli was replaced by Adam Lallana at half-time. Rodgers said: “It was purely tactical – I felt we needed a bit more movement centrally to occupy their centre-halves a bit more and I thought Raheem Sterling would do that.”

Could it be Mario’s last time in a red shirt, or force the kind of kick up the arse he needs?

We’re offering odds of 4/6 that the Italian will make an official apology to fans after his shirt-swapping antics and it’s 20/1 that Brendan Rodgers will put an end to all shirt swapping in future and issue a club ban.

It all makes Robbie Keane’s spell at the club seem golden in comparison.
