Andy Gray: Manchester United, Southampton and West Ham to win, but Liverpool and Chelsea will share the spoils

Everybody's favourite Scottish pundit who isn't Graeme Souness looks into his crystal ball to tip this weekend's Premier League action

by Sean Goff | November 7, 2014

Andy tweaked a hamstring last week dragging his deckchair into the shade – so we didn’t get any tips from him.

It was a weekend that saw Chris Smalling’s kamikaze tackle end United’s derby hopes against City, the ‘Alan Pardew out’ campaign go strangely quiet and the ‘I told you Koeman would do well at Southampton’ brigade continue to wear a big, smug smile. Your 15 points behind the Graymeister (he hates that name) – so let the catching up begin.

Andy Gray 64 – 49 You* (*you plural)

One point is awarded per correct prediction, regardless of the odds associated with it, to see who is smarter. Well, we probably know who is smarter because none of the Paddy Power customers lost their cushy punditry job for making sexually inappropriate remarks, but we want to see who can give Premier League betting tips. Keep reading for this week’s throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks well thought-out predictions.

Andy’s Saturday treble: Manchester United, Southampton and West Ham all to win –  9/4

You say: Manchester United, Southampton, Manchester City all to win – 7/4

RESULT: Andy 0 – You 0

Liverpool v Chelsea
Saturday 12.45pm, BT Sport

Big game for the Liverpool fans who’ll see it as a ‘revenge’ game. Chelsea will just want to get the job done.

Andy says:

  • Chelsea won’t lose this game.
  • Liverpool players are under pressure to perform.

Andy’s bets: Draw written all over it | 1-1 | Steven Gerrard anytime goalscorer

You say: Chelsea to win | 2-0 away win | Diego Costa anytime goalscorer

RESULT: Andy 0 – You 2

Liverpool v Chelsea MBS

Manchester United v Crystal Palace
Saturday 3pm, Setanta

A strange time at Old Trafford. Normally a home ‘banker but United haven’t won in their last three games but I still expect them to win comfortably.

  • A must win game for United
  • They should be too strong for the visitors
  • Palace looked liked they’d hit the wall when losing 3-1 to Sunderland on MNF

Andy’s bet: Man United to win | Correct Score 2-0 | Wayne Rooney first goalscorer

You say: Man United to win | Correct Score 3-1 | Wayne Rooney first goalscorer

RESULT: Andy 1 – You 1

West Ham v Aston Villa
Saturday 3pm

The high-flying Hammers are full of confidence but Paul Lambert is under pressure. Christian Benteke’s suspended for Villa that could make all the difference.

Andy’s bets:  West Ham to win
You say: West Ham to win

RESULT: Andy 0 – You 0

Burnley v Hull
Saturday 3pm

Andy’s bets: Burnley to get theirs first win of the season

You say:  A draw

RESULT: Andy 1 – You 0

Southampton v Leicester
Saturday 3pm

Andy’s bets: Southampton to win

You say: Southampton to win

RESULT: Andy 1 – You 1

QPR v Man City
Saturday 5.30pm, Sky Sports 1

City have to respond to their mid-week Champions League defeat. QPR have only won two games this season. I’d be amazed if City get beaten.

Andy’s bets: Man City to win | Aguero to score first | City to win 3-1
You say: QPR to win | Aguero first goalscorer | QPR to win 1-0

RESULT: Andy 0 – You 0

West Brom v Newcastle
Sunday, 1.30pm, Sky Sports 1

Newcastle have had three wins in a row but the Baggies are a hard team to beat at home and I thinkl they’ll shade it if they defend well.

Andy’s bets: West Brom to win  | Saido Berahino first goalscorer

You say: Newcastle to win |  Saido Berahino first goalscorer

RESULT: Andy 0 – You 1

Sunderland v Everton
Sunday 1.30pm

Everton’s league form is patchy but Sunderland steadied the ship by beating Crystal Palace last Monday.

Andy’s bets: A draw

You say: Everton to win

RESULT: Andy 1 – You 0

Tottenham v Stoke
Sunday 1.30pm

Hopefully the real Tottenham turn up to beat an inconsistent Stoke.

Andy’s bets: Spurs to win

You say: Spurs to win

RESULT: Andy 0 – You 0

Swansea v Arsenal
Sunday, 4pm, Live, Sky Sports 1

This could be a tight game and Arsenal could be flat after giving up a three-goal lead mid-week. Swansea are hard to beat.

Andy’s bets: Draw | Correct Score 2-2

You say: Arsenal to win | Correct Score 2-1

RESULT: Andy 0 – You 0

WEEK 11 TOTAL: Andy 4 – You 5

OVERALL: Andy 68 – You 54
