It’s hard not to boil over with excitement for this week’s Open meeting at Cheltenham, and I’m just the same as any other racegoer – itching for the action to get under way.
Of course the Paddy Power Gold Cup is the big race, but there are half a dozen or so horses I can’t wait to see over the coming days.
Look out for Sausalito Sunrise, who was sixth in the Albert Bartlett at the Festival but who might be even better over fences. He won well on his chasing debut at Chepstow and trainer Philip Hobbs loves him. Watch out for Easter Meteor too who at 12/1 is being well punted for the Gold Cup.
It could be a good week for Hobbs, who may also run the Cesarewitch hero Big Easy in a Listed Handicap Hurdle. He’s clearly in great form.
Paul Nicholls is always to be feared, and the champion may still have something up his sleeve with Sam Winner, who could go for a staying handicap Chase, while his Dodging Bullets has Module to dodge in the Shloer Chase.
The Greatwood Hurdle will be tough to win, but I’m going to be following Baltimore Rock this season, who impressed in the Imperial Cup. He’s got more to come.
