Paddy’s Punt: An 8/1 tip for Cheltenham on Friday from an in-form stable

Dark Ruler got us the each-money money at 20/1 last weekend at Doncaster. Let's try to get the Open meeting off to a flyer on Friday.

The Cheltenham Open meeting kicks off with an interesting six-race card on Friday with the Novice chase looks one to savour.

Serial bridesmaid Colour Squadron (2.25pm) sets the standard – but he faces some exciting debutantes. Meanwhile, old stalwart Balthazar King (3.35pm) should take the Cross Country Chase but will be a short price to do so.

For a bet we look to the highly competitive two mile chase at 1.50pm in which we’re paying the first 5 home.

Festive Affair traveled really well for a long way in a hot Novice handicap won by Paddy Power Gold Cup favourite Present View at the Festival – until his stamina ran out.

This race sees him return to the two mile trip of his Newbury win the time before that. He’s making his seasonal bow but with Barry Geraghty booked for Jonjo O’Neill’s in-form stable a big run seems likely.
