It’s an absolutely brilliant feeling to win on Hurricane Fly again.
That’s his 20th Grade One success, his third Morgiana Hurdle on the bounce – despite us coming into the race as the underdog, in my view.
Had we written him off too early? I don’t think so but when you’re up against the reigning Champion Hurdler who’s beaten you twice recently there will be doubts.
Hurricane Fly missed the second last but I was able to get back on track again and to do that against a horse of Jezki’s calibre – it was a great performance.
It worked out for us today at Punchestown. There was no hiding place as Little King Robin made it a truly-run race. The Fly brought his ‘A’ game – but he’ll need to keep bringing it every time he races.
Good horses always hold a special place in your heart and Hurricane Fly is no different.
He’s the best hurdler I’ve ever ridden – without a doubt.
Will he stay over two miles now for Leopardstown at Christmas? It’d take a brave manto move him up in trip now.
That was as good a feeling as winning the Irish Champion Hurdle last February. I’m delighted.
