Vine: Fabricio Werdum crowned heavyweight champ after UFC knees up with Mark Hunt

Werdum sets up possible unification bout with injured Velasquez next year

by Sean Goff | November 16, 2014

Magnaminous words (below) from the defeated Mark Hunt after his face got in the way of Fabricio Werdum’s knee at last night’s UFC 180 bout in Mexico City.

I love the ones you don’t see and I didn’t see that one.

The Brazilian seized the UFC interim heavyweight championship with this second-round knockout of Hunt to set up a possible unification bout with undisputed champ Cain Velasquez –  if the American recovers from injury that has sidelined him for over a year.

Hunt came out swinging and the New Zealander dropped Werdum early on before this knee to the mush and a series of hammer fists forced the referee to stop the fight after 2:27 minutes of the second round.

Velasquez may just be pushing back that recovery date a little longer …
