The most important finish of the weekend was undeniably Fabricio Werdum’s stoppage of Mark Hunt to win the UFC interim heavyweight title. That said, my personal favourite knockout from a weekend packed full of MMA action came from Bellator 131.
Sadly it wasn’t Stephan Bonnar’s brutally violent stoppage of Tito Ortiz because that didn’t happen. Instead the two old farts ground their way through a rather dull three rounds, with the Huntington Beach Badboy getting his hand raised.
Instead it was Joe Schilling’s second round stoppage of Melvin Manhoef. A short left and right stiffened Manhoef right up and the referee was in to stop the fight before Schilling could follow up with anymore shots to his prostrate opponent.
